The Meteorological Department in Uttarakhand has issued a yellow alert for rain, thunderstorm and lightning in several districts including Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Bageshwar and Pithoragarh.

The weather in Uttarakhand has taken a turn once again. Continuous rain, strong winds and hailstorm have completely changed the weather from the mountains to the plains. The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert on Thursday regarding thunder, dust storm and lightning in many hilly districts. In view of the inclement weather, a special advisory has also been issued for pilgrims coming on the Chardham Yatra.
Rain and lightning alert in mountainous districts
According to the Meteorological Department, light to moderate rain is expected in Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Bageshwar, and Pithoragarh districts today. Thunderstorms are possible in these areas. A warning has also been issued for strong storm and lightning. The department has appealed to people to remain alert and stay in safe places during bad weather.
Heavy rain in Dehradun and Mussoorie
The weather in the capital, Dehradun, was clear and sunny on Wednesday morning, but soon after, clouds covered the sky. Heavy rain began in Dehradun and Mussoorie in the afternoon. Hailstorms also occurred in many areas, causing a sudden drop in temperatures. Strong winds started blowing in the evening, which increased the cold further. In Mussoorie, the weather became so cold that people had to wear warm clothing again.
Temperatures Drop Across the State

Pantnagar recorded a maximum temperature of 33.0 degrees Celsius and a minimum temperature of 17.1 degrees Celsius. Whereas in Mukteshwar, the maximum temperature was recorded at 18.5 and minimum at 7.1 degree Celsius. New Tehri recorded a maximum temperature of 21.4 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 7.6 degrees Celsius.

Bageshwar Feels February-Like Cold in May
Due to continuous rain and strong winds, many mountainous regions, including Bageshwar, are experiencing severe cold even in May. The rain that occurred on Wednesday afternoon disrupted normal life. Local people say that the sudden cold in the weather feels like the February weather. The cold has increased considerably in the morning and evening in the hilly areas.
Administration’s advisory for Chardham pilgrims
In view of the constantly changing weather, the Uttarkashi district administration has issued an advisory for pilgrims visiting Gangotri and Yamunotri Dham. According to the administration, the Yamunotri and Gangotri areas will remain cloudy for the next week, with the possibility of light rain and thunderstorms.
Pilgrims have been advised to consult the weather forecast before embarking on their journey. Avoid staying in open spaces, hill slopes and on the banks of rivers and streams during rain. The administration has urged pilgrims to contact the nearest help center or control room in case of emergency.
Pilgrims have also been advised to carry raincoats, umbrellas, warm clothing, and essential medications. Trekkers have been instructed to travel in groups and stop at safe places in case of bad weather.
