J&K’s Udhampur : In As Bus Rolls Down Hill 7 Dead, Several Injured
Seven people died and several were injured when a bus rolled down a hill in Udhampur district.
Jammu:
Seven people were killed and several others injured when a passenger bus rolled down a hill in Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur district on Monday, authorities said.
The bus met with the accident on the hilly road while negotiating a blind curve near Kagort village in Ram Nagar area around 10 am, the authorities said.
They said a major rescue operation is underway. Several persons were shifted to hospital from the scene and their condition is said to be critical.
The bus was on way to Udhampur from a remote village when the accident took place, the officials said.
At least 15 people were killed and 20 were injured after a passenger bus rolled down into a canyon in Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur district on Monday.
The accident took place near Kanote village when the bus, traveling from Ramnagar to Udhampur, lost control and plunged into a gorge. Rescue operations were launched immediately by local authorities.
The bus was taking a sharp curve on a hilly road when the driver lost control, causing the vehicle to roll down a steep, rocky slope of around 100 feet before landing on a lower road.

Union Minister Jitender Singh said he had spoken to Udhampur Deputy Commissioner Minga Sherpa soon after the incident.
“Just now spoke to DC Udhampur, Minga Sherpa, after learning about a tragic road accident, less than an hour ago, at village Kanote, involving a public transport bus on its way from Ramnagar to Udhampur. The rescue operation has been immediately undertaken. Heavy casualties are expected. All possible assistance is being provided. The injured will be shifted for medical aid. Arrangements being made to airlift the seriously injured. I am in constant touch with the local administration as well as our local workers team led by Rajinder Sharma
J&K LG Manoj Sinha said, “Tragic road accident in Udhampur is heartbreaking. My deepest condolence to bereaved families. May God grant them strength. Praying for speedy recovery of injured. I have directed district admin, Police, SDRF & Health Dept to provide every possible assistance to those affected.”

Injured are being brought to GMC Udhampur, while efforts are ongoing to retrieve the bodies of those killed in the accident, Dr Sanjeev Gupta, medical superintendent of Government Medical College (GMC) and Associated Hospitals, Udhampur, said.

According to news agency PTI, the accident occurred around 10 AM near Kagort village in the Ramnagar area when the bus was negotiating a blind curve.
Residents in the area were the first to reach the site and started rescuing passengers, pulling the injured from the wreckage before emergency teams arrived.
Police and other responders later joined the operation to evacuate victims and clear the site.
Authorities said 15 bodies had been recovered from the vehicle, while 20 injured passengers were taken to hospital.
The condition of several of them was described as “serious”.
Authorities said the bus was on its way to Udhampur from a remote village when the crash took place.
The cause of the crash is yet to be officially confirmed.
Union minister Jitendra Singh said he had spoken to local officials following the incident and that arrangements were being made to assist the injured.
