Ramakant was the father of actor Yashaswini Dayama, who is best known for shows like Adulting, Delhi Crime, Bandish Bandits, among others. Ramakant passed away following a prolonged illness.

Ramakant’s colleague, Shubhangi Sanjeev Latkar, took to social media to share the news of his demise. Alongside a heartfelt note, Shubhangi also shared a video of Ramakant dancing joyfully to Shammi Kapoor’s dance number “An evening in Paris.”

He may have looked tiny in appearance, but he was one of the strongest and most courageous people I have known. Though we all knew he had been unwell for many months, somewhere in the heart, one never stops hoping…

Veteran actor Ramakant Dayama, known for his memorable character roles across films, television and web series, died on May 26 at his Mumbai residence. He was 85.

The actor had reportedly been battling extended health issues and had remained unwell for several months.

News of his passing was confirmed by actor and close friend Shubhangi Latkar, who shared an emotional tribute on social media besides an old video of Dayama singing and dancing.

Calling him a “truly beautiful soul”, Latkar remembered him as a warm, energetic and brave person who brought joy to everyone around him.

“Though we all knew he had been unwell for many months, somewhere in the heart, one never stops hoping,” she wrote.

She also revealed that the two had planned to collaborate again on a Hindi stage play and poetry presentation, plans that now remain incomplete.

Over the years, Dayama built a quiet but influential presence in Indian entertainment, earning respect for the warmth, authenticity and emotional depth he brought to supporting roles.

He was widely recognized for playing Harshad Mehta’s father Shantilal Mehta in Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story, a performance praised for its emotional honesty.

His filmography also included projects such as Chak De! India Farzi, Ram Setu and Brothers, besides numerous television serials and Marathi productions.

Although we all knew he had been unwell for many months, somewhere in the heart, one never stops hoping… We had so many unfinished plans. After years, I had truly wished to work with him again. We had decided to do a beautiful Hindi play together. When I requested him, he smiled and said, ‘Let me get well soon.’ We had even planned to present selected beautiful poems together on stage. That dream, too, now remains unfinished…” Shubhangi wrote.

He was also a part of daily soaps like Mehndi Wala Ghar, Servicewali Bahu, and Kunwara Hai Par Hamara Hai.
