The National Testing Agency (NTA) on Friday announced that the re-examination for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test Undergraduate (NEET-UG) 2026 will be conducted on June 21, bringing an end to days of uncertainty for over 22 lakh medical aspirants after the May 3 examination was canceled over alleged paper leak allegations.
The fresh exam date was announced through the official X handle of the National Testing Agency (NTA). The agency declared that the decision to conduct the NEET-UG 2026 re-examination on Sunday, June 21, has been taken with the approval of the Government of India.
“National Testing Agency has decided to conduct the re-examination of NEET (UG) 2026 on Sunday, 21 June 2026,” the agency said in its post.
The cancellation of the May 3 exam, announced on May 12, had left thousands of candidates waiting for clarity on the revised schedule, admit cards, and further admission process.
NTA also advised candidates and parents to rely only on official communication channels for authentic updates related to the examination.

The decision comes days after the agency canceled the NEET-UG examination conducted on May 3 following allegations of irregularities, impacting lakhs of medical aspirants across the country
The government had also ordered a comprehensive probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation into the alleged malpractice linked to the examination.
While announcing the cancellation earlier, the NTA said the decision was taken “in the interest of students” and to preserve public confidence in the national examination system.
“On the basis of inputs subsequently examined by NTA in coordination with central agencies, and the investigative findings shared by the law enforcement agencies, the National Testing Agency, with the approval of the Government of India, has decided to cancel the NEET (UG) 2026 examination conducted on 3 May 2026, and to re-conduct the examination on dates that will be notified separately,” the agency had published on X.
“The inputs received by NTA, taken together with the findings shared by the law enforcement agencies, established that the present examination process could not be permitted to stand. The re-conducted examination dates, along with the re-issued admit-card schedule, will be communicated through the official channels of the agency in the coming days,” it added.
Protests broke out in several cities after the cancellation of the exam, with workers of the National Students’ Union of India staging demonstrations against the alleged paper leak and examination irregularities.

The meeting was attended by Higher Education Secretary Vineet Joshi, School Education Secretary Sanjay Kumar, NTA General Director Abhishek Singh, CBSE Chairperson Rahul Singh and senior officials from Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan and Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti. NEET-UG 2026, conducted on May 3, was canceled by the NTA on May 12 following allegations of a coordinated paper leak. The examination, considered the country’s largest undergraduate medical entrance test, was held across 551 cities in India and 14 cities abroad, covering more than 5,400 centers and involving over 22 lakh candidates. The matter is currently being investigated by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which registered an FIR under provisions related to criminal conspiracy, cheating, criminal breach of confidence and destruction of evidence, along with offenses under the Prevention of Corruption Act and the Public Examination Prevention of Unfair Means Act, 2024. Meanwhile, a Delhi court recently granted seven days’ CBI custody of five accused arrested in connection with the alleged paper leak case. The accused include Mangilal Biwal, Dinesh Biwal, Vikas Biwal, Shubham Khairnar and Yash Yadav.
According to the court, the investigation is at a “very nascent stage” and points towards a larger conspiracy involving the circulation and sale of leaked question papers to candidates for large amounts of money. The cancellation of the exam triggered protests by student organizations across several states, with opposition leaders also questioning the credibility of the examination system and demanding accountability from authorities.
