India vs Bangladesh Updates, U-19 World Cup 2026:
Rain has stopped play with 11 overs to go in the India U19 innings against Bangladesh U19 in their ICC U19 World Cup 2026 match in Bulawayo on Sat. India have reached 192/6 after 39 overs, with Abhigyan Kundu and RS Ambrish at the crease. Talented wicket-keeper batsman Kundu slammed a patient half-century. 14-year-old sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi has been India’s top run-getter so far, making 72 off 67 balls. Suryavanshi broke Virat Kohli’s record of the most runs by an Indian in youth ODIs, and also became the youngest to score a fifty in U19 World Cup history. India got off to a catastrophic start, losing the wickets of Ayush Mhatre, Vedant Trivedi and Vihaan Malhotra inside the powerplay. Earlier, India captain Ayush Mhatre and Bangladesh skipper Azizul Hakim Tamim did not shake hands at the toss, amid ongoing political tension between the two nations.
Positive news?
The fourth umpire is out to inspect the pitch conditions at Bulawayo, as per Cricbuzz. The rain is still there, but the fourth umpire did reportedly pull his umbrella down during the inspection. That could be good news that the rain has lightened.
NEW DELHI:
India captain Ayush Mhatre and Bangladesh vice-captain Zawad Abrar skipped the customary handshake at the toss ahead of their Group A clash in the ICC Under-19 World Cup at the Queens Sports Club on Saturday, underling the strain in relations between the two neighboring nations.
The toss was delayed by over 15 minutes due to drizzle, and when the captains walked out, neither initiated the traditional exchange of pleasantries.
India’s Under-19 captain Ayush Mhatre captain the routine handshake with his counter, Bangladesh captain during the ICC Under-19 World Cup match on Saturday (January 17). Regular Bangladesh captain Md Azizul Hakim Tamim was unwell and vice-captain Zawad Abrar had stepped in for the toss to take his place at the Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo.
After Bangladesh won the toss and elected to bowl first, Abrar walked past Mhatre but the duo avoided any interaction or eye contact.
India played with an unchanged side while Bangladesh were playing their first game of the tournament.
A look at their playing 11s:
India U19: Ayush Mhatre (c), Vaibhav Suryavanshi, Vedant Trivedi, Vihaan Malhotra, Abhigyan Kundu (w), Kanishk Chouhan, Harvansh Pangalia, RS Ambrish, Henil Patel, Deepesh Devendran, Khilan Patel.

The handshake snub comes after the political tensions between the two countries have increased. After recurring reports of violence against Hindus in Bangladesh, the BCCI instructed Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to release fast-bowler Mustafizur Rahman.
Keeping the public sentiment in mind, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia revelaed that KKR were advised to release the pacer from their squad.
After all of this, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) have not remained silent and have tried multiple things to change the venues for their team’s T20 World Cup fixtures coming up next month, forcing ICC to intervene in the matter. All of Bangladesh’s matches have been scheduled in India.

India’s poor start
India‘s problems stemmed from the fact that they lost three wickets in the first 10 overs, including captain Ayush Mhatre and Vedant Trivedi in successive balls in just the third over. Bangladesh pacer Al Fahad was excellent with the new ball.
Suryavanshi, Kundu star
India have suffered plenty of hiccups during their batting, and Bangladesh have done a praiseworthy job with the ball. However, Vaibhav Suryavanshi slammed an excellent fifty up first despite wickets tumbling at the other end. Then, Abhigyan Kundu started off slow but picked up his pace to notch up his own fifty.
Covers brought on
More covers have been brought upon to protect the pitch. Dark clouds are in the air, with the rain continuing to fall. The rain has came at a bad time for India, who would have been looking for a late surge in the final stages of their innings. They were going at more than 6 runs per over after the 30th over.
