Vijay Hazare Trophy : Sarfaraz hits 15-ball fifty but Mumbai lose the unlosable

Madhya Pradesh stun Karnataka

Vijay Hazare Trophy MP were ranked fourth on the points table coming into the game, but a stunning all-round show has given them a solid chance to make it to the next round. They came up against the unbeaten Karnataka side but brought out a stellar show with bat and ball.

Bowling first, left-arm wristspinner Shivang Kumar, picked up 5 for 45 as Karnataka were bowled out for 207 in 47.4 overs. In response, captain Venkatesh Iyer remained unbeaten on a 33-ball 65 while Tripuresh Singh thumped 36 not out off 12 as MP chased down the 208 in 23.2 overs to give their NRR a massive boost.

While Karnataka has already qualified for the knockouts, MP will wait for the outcome of the TN-Kerala game.

Six-wicket haul for Sushant Mishra but Jharkhand collapse

The left-arm fast bowler has missed a lot of cricket due to a back injury but is making up for missing time. After finishing the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy as the joint-highest wicket-taker and taking Jharkhand to a maiden title, he has shown his wares in the Vijay Hazare Trophy as well. He returned 6 for 52 against Tripura, his best statistics in any format in senior cricket. Mishra recently spoke to ESPNcricinfo about his time off the field with back injuries, and his comeback.

Despite Mishra’s genius, Jharkhand failed to overcome the Tripura challenge. Sridam Paul recorded a astonishing 150 while Rajat Dey scored 102 as Tripura posted a mammoth 320. Jharkhand were blown away in the chase.

Punjab win a thriller as Mumbai lose the unlosable

Mumbai has collapsed and how. Chasing 217, they were cruising on 139 for 2 inside 15 overs when Sarfaraz fell for a whirlpool 20-ball 60. Shreyas Iyer, the captain, held one end together even as Mumbai lost Suryakumar Yadav and Shivam Dube. At one point, Mumbai required 16 to win with more than 27 overs remaining and five wickets in hand. But Shreyas fell, and with him, Mumbai.

Markande sent back Shreyas with the score on 201 for 6 in 22.3 overs. Mumbai would have still fancied their chances having reached 212 for 6. They required five to win with four wickets in hand but lost all their remaining wickets for just three runs to lose by one run.

Gurnoor Brar picked up 4 for 57 while Markande returned 4 for 31 as Punjab took home an unlikely win. Both Punjab and Mumbai had already qualified for the knockouts. But the result means that Punjab finish top of the table while Mumbai are second.

Chasing 217 at the Jaipuria Vidyalaya Ground, in Jaipur, Mumbai started swiftly with Musheer Khan and Angkrish Raghuvanshi adding 57 runs for the opening wicket in 8.2 overs. Sarfaraz replaced his brother in the middle and immediately took the spinners apart.

He first crushed the Punjab captain Abhishek Sharma for three sixes and three fours in an over and then went after the left-arm spin of Harpreet Brar as well, smoking him for 19 runs in five balls. Sarfaraz finally fell for 62 off just 20 balls, lbw by Mayank Markande, his innings laced with seven fours and five sixes.
