BBL 2025: Perth Scorchers vs Adelaide Scorchers 23rd T20 Match Prediction
Perth Scorchers 153 for 8 (Marsh 37, Fanning 31, Pope 4-23, Shamsi 3-30) beat Adelaide Strikers 120 (Scot 33, Short 31, Paris 3-22, Turner 2-1) by 33 runs
Veteran fast bowler Joel Paris has inspired a late fightback as Perth Scorchers overcame an all-out spin assault to post a fighting 33-run victory over the Adelaide Strikers at Optus Stadium.
BBL 2025:
Tabraiz Shamsi unleashed his trademark shoe celebration and Lloyd Pope starred as Strikers spun a web of magic in Perth to restrict the Scorchers to 153 for 8. In response, Strikers were on track for victory at 48 for 1 and 86 for 4 before Paris sparked a big collapse.
Paris, who’d earlier also smacked a pair of sixes in a crucial 20 not out at the end of Scorchers’ innings, snared Harry Manenti in the 13th over, but his biggest impact came in the 16th – the first over of the power surge.
With Strikers needing 49 off 30 balls, Paris first had Jerrsis Wadia caught at mid-off before Luke Wood skied a catch to point two balls later. This meant Paris snared 2 for 6 in the first over of the surge, with Strikers failing to recover as they were bowled out for 120 in 18.1 overs. Scorechers’ third win on the trot took them to second spot on the points table.
Scorchers were dealt a double injury blow after imports Finn Allen (finger) and Laurie Evans (hamstring) were ruled out. Strikers handed a BBL debut to Shamsi, and his impact was profound. The wristspinner dismissed both Mitchell Marsh and Cooper Connolly within the space of four balls in the tenth over to kick-start Scorchers’ downfall.
After Marsh holed out to long on, Shamsi took off his shoe and held it up like a telephone while pointing to a box in the crowd. Australian T20 star Tim David, who was on commentary duties in Perth after suffering a season-ending hamstring injury, took off his own shoe to answer Shamsi’s “call.” The two were the team-mates at St Lucia Kings last year in the Caribbean Premier League.

Pope snared the skull of Sam Fanning to reduce the Scorchers to 74 for 3 in the 11th over. And Scorchers were in a world of pain when Pope sent Joel Curtis and Aaron Hardie packing in the 13th over as Perth slumped to 87 for 5.
There was hope for the Scorchers in the 15th over when Ashton Turner struck Shamsi for 4, 4, 6 and 4 to start the power surge in the 15th over. But when Shamsi got his vengeance by having Turner sky a catch to midwicket and then Pope removed Nick Hobson, Scorchers could only limp to a sub-standard total.
Strikers used spin from the fifth over until the last – and the tactic worked a treat. The Strikers had also employed a spin-heavy attack two years ago when they upset Scorchers in a knockout final.
In the chase, Cooper Connolly snared the key scalp of Chris Lynn in the first over, before the Strikers settled to move to 48 for 1. Scorchers inhaled life into the match when Turner removed Matt Short and Jason Sangha in the space of three balls, before Mackenzie Harvey chopped Ashton Agar on as the Strikers lost 3 for none.
Strikers stabilized the ship after that triple blow, but they couldn’t recover from the late onslaught from Paris.
Perth Scorchers will collide against Adelaide Strikers in the 23rd match of the Men’s Big Bash League 2025 campaign. The game is scheduled to take place at Perth Stadium in Perth on Sunday, 4th January. While the Scorchers will aim for their third consecutive win, the Strikers will look to strengthen their net run-rate.
Perth Scorchers
Perth Scorchers are on a roll, currently on a two-match winning streak before heading into this match. Their recent victory over the Hurricanes by 40 runs must have boosted their morale for the upcoming games. With the help of a century from Mitchell Marsh (102) and Aaron Hardie’s unbeaten 94 runs, the Scorchers posted a mammoth total of 229 for 3 in their first inns. They restricted the Hurricanes to 189 runs in their complete overs; credit goes to the superb bowling spell from Aston Agar, who scalped three wickets. With three wins in their five matches, they are sitting in third spot in the table.

Adelaide Strikers
Adelaide Strikers have enjoyed a great start to their Big Bash League 2025 tournament, sitting fourth on the leaderboard with two victories and two losses from four matches. They sealed a convincing victory by 7 wickets in the last match over the Brisbane Heat. While bowling first, they bowled out their opponents for just 121 runs; Jamie Overton was the standout baller, taking three wickets for just 19 runs in his four overs. The Strikers chased it down in just 14.1 overs with the help of Chris Lynn’s power-packed 79 runs. Their captain, Matthew Short, has been the backbone of their batting, scoring 153 runs in four games, providing a much-needed stability at the top.
PS vs AS Pitch Report
The surface at the Optus has traditionally preferred pacers throughout the years, with good pace and bounce. It’s a good track that helps the pacer with the new ball, while the spinners will have to put on extra efforts to get some buy. As the ball gets older, the pacers might test the batters with hard length bowls and slow deliveries. Overall, it’s a surface that rewards quality pace bowling early and aggressive batting once set, with teams generally preferring to bat first and post a stronger total. The average expected score is likely to be somewhere around 145-155.
PS vs AS Weather Report
The weather is expected to remain partially cloudy during the match, with a cool environment. The temperature is likely to be around 22-26°C. The rain predicted for the match is around 7%, leading to drizzles in between the match, but fans can expect it to proceed without any further interference.
