The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has released its weather forecast for January 10, 2026, warning of dense to very dense fog, cold wave conditions and heavy precipitation across several parts of the country. Winter conditions are expected to intensify over northern and eastern India, while southern coastal regions may experience unfavorable weather due to a deep depression over the Bay of Bengal.

Morning hours on January 10 are likely to witness thick to very dense fog in isolated pockets of West and East Rajasthan, West Uttar Pradesh, East Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Punjab, Haryana and Madhya Pradesh, leading to poor visibility and possible disruption in transport services.

IMD has predicted cold day conditions in isolated parts of East Rajasthan and Bihar on January 10. At the same time, cold wave conditions are very likely to prevail in isolated pockets of Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Odisha. Similar conditions are also expected over Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and Bihar.

Minimum temperatures are expected to remain below normal, with no significant change across northwestern and east India. Ground frost conditions are very likely in isolated pockets of Uttarakhand, raising concerns for farming and early-morning commuters.

Heavy rainfall and rough sea conditions along Tamil Nadu coast


Under the influence of a deep depression over the southwestern Bay of Bengal, heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely at isolated places over Tamil Nadu on January 10. Squally winds with speeds reaching 40-50 kmph, gusting up to 60 kmph, are expected along and off the Tamil Nadu-Puducherry coast.

Sea conditions are forecast to be rough to very rough over the southwestern Bay of Bengal, Gulf of Mannar and adjacent areas. IMD has advised fishermen not to venture into the sea along the Tamil Nadu-Puducherry coast and nearby regions on January 10 due to hazardous marine conditions.

Authorities have urged citizens to remain cautious and follow IMD advisers closely.

The cold wave conditions will continue for the next few days. Some parts of the country will see heavy rains along with cold wave conditions, dense fog and rough sea conditions according to the latest weather forecast and warnings for January 9–11, 2026.
