India vs New Zealand Score, 2nd ODI:

India are four wickets down and in a spot of trouble against New Zealand, following the dismissal of Virat Kohli. KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja aim to steady the ship as India eye a big total. Kohli (23 off 29) chop-on a delivery from Kristian Clarke. India captain Gill (56 off 53) hits a well-made half-century before giving his wicket to Kyle Jamieson. Rohit (24 off 38) was given his marching orders by Clarke in the 13th over. New Zealand captain Michael Bracewell won the toss and opted to bowl at the Niranjan Shah Stadium. India made one change to their playing XI: Nitish Kumar Reddy replaced the injured Washington Sundar. Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer performed well with the bat as India chased down a 301-run target to register a brilliant victory in the first ODI clash in Rajkot. Virat Kohli will look to become the first Indian batsman ever to register six consecutive 50-plus scores in ODIs. For New Zealand, Jayden Lennox was given his ODI debut.

NZ have done well to peg India back!

Foulkes is back into the attack and so in speed! Runs have dried up in the last 10 overs, let alone boundaries. Spinners have been much more efficient.

Umpire grills Bracewell!

The umpire Richard Illingworth had a with the New Zealand captain after the previous over. He was not happy with the visiting captain throwing the ball on the pitch used (catalyses the process to get the ball older).

Rahul breaks the shackles!

Rahul ends India’s 62-ball boundary draft! It was tossed and Rahul was on his toes. Dispatches this to the left of mid-off.

Some response from NZ!

Excellent captaincy from Bracewell! Gives much-need rest to Clarke and returns to attack himself. New Zealand now have spinners from both ends. Great move considering there are two new batsmen.

Toss New Zealand chose to field vs India

Michael Bracewell called right at the toss to deny India a rare hat-trick of toss victories after losing 20 in a row. New Zealand disregarded the venue record of four successful defenses in four matches and decided to chase, hoping dew would come to their assistance in the night. It is not just about gripping the ball, but the pitch starting to skid on in the evening.

India’s captain Shubman Gill said he would have batted first anyway. He reported there wasn’t much dew at the venue when they trained the night earlier. He also said he had inputs that the pitch tended to slow down.

Both sides made one change each. India were forced to get in a replacement for the wounded Washington Sundar. Nitish Kumar Reddy, already in the squad, was preferred to Ayush Badoni, which also suggests the pitch was not expected to help the slower bowlers much. It also meant that Arshdeep Singh continued to stay on the bench.

New Zealand replaced legspinner Adithya Ashok with debutant left-arm spinner Jayden Lennonx. In List A cricket, Lennox has gone at a little over four and over and has taken 1.25 wickets per match.

India: 1 Shubman Gill (capt), 2 Rohit Sharma, 3 Virat Kohli, 4 Shreyas Iyer, 5 KL Rahul (wk), 6 Ravindra Jadeja, 7 Nitish Kumar Reddy, 8 Harshit Rana, 9 Kuldeep Yadav, 10 Mohammed Siraj, 11 Prasidh Krishna

New Zealand: 1 Devon Conway, 2 Henry Nicholls, 3 Will Young, 4 Daryl Mitchell, 5 Glenn Phillips, 6 Mitchell Hay (wk), 7 Michael Bracewell (capt), 8 Zak Foulks, 9 Kristian Clarke, 10 Kyle Jamieson, 11 Jayden Lennox.

RAJKOT:

After a closer-than-expected victory in Vadodara, India will look to iron out vulnerabilities such as the lack of wickets with the new ball and the spinners’ inability to strike in the middle overs. They will also be keen to maintain their unbeaten record of never having lost a home ODI series against New Zealand when the teams clash at the Niranjan Shah Stadium here on Wednesday

With allrounder Washington Sundar ruled out due to a rib injury, it will be interesting to see who is drafted in as his replacement. Delhi batsman Ayush Badoni has been named in the squad but it remains to be seen whether he gets a game. India’s power-packed top order—Rohit Sharma, captain Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli—will look to feast again on what appears to be a placid wicket against a largely inexperienced bowling attack. With vice-captain Shreyas Iyer also returning to form with a well-composed 49 and KL Rahul scoring 29 not out, India’s middle order has been among runs, barring Ravindra Jadeja. The hosts will not want a rerun of the collapse they suffered in the first ODI after Kohli fell, which allowed the match to drag to the penultimate over.

2nd ODI

Crucial partnership!

All eyes on this partnership! India could come under unbelievable amount of pressure if New Zealand manages to claim another wicket here. Kohli and Shreyas have been India’s most consistent batters in this format and the hosts need another masterclass from them.

That is a soft dismissal!

Lapse in concentration and Gill gifts his wicket to Jamieson. Short of a length delivery just outside off and he is incapable of controlling the pull. Hits it straight to Daryl Mitchell at midwicket.

Shubman Gill c Mitchell b Jamieson 56(53)
IND: 99/2 (16.5)
