IIT Madras Rolls Out BSc In Management And Data Science For Students And Working Professionals

IIT Madras New BSc Programme: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras has launched a new bachelor’s program aimed at equipping students and working professionals with management knowledge along analytical skills. The Bachelor of Science (BS) in Management and Data Science is open to all eligible candidates and offers strong career paths in consulting, finance, technology, manufacturing, healthcare, public policy, and more.
Who Can Apply?
The program has no minimum age requirement and no seat cap. Individuals who have passed Class 12 are eligible to apply. The course is also well-suited for working professionals, as it will be offered in a hybrid mode with recorded lectures, live sessions, and exams scheduled on Sundays – making it accessible alongside work or other studies.
The first batch will commence in June 2026, and interested candidates must apply before May 31.
School students who have appeared for their Class 11 final exams can also apply, regardless of their stream or board. Those who qualified can enroll in the program after successfully passing Class 12. Applicants must have studied Mathematics and English as subjects.

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Madras, on Saturday launched an online Bachelor of Science program on Management and Data Science aiming to target early-or-mid-career industry professionals, civil servants or professionals working in the policymaking sphere, as well as students enrolled in completely unrelated courses.

Launching the course, V. Kamakoti, Director,IIT Madras, said, “Entry (to the course) is relatively easy but the exit is extremely hard.” He said there were 50 million students in higher education in India today, which necessitated the democratization of education. These online courses were a step in that direction.
Before this ,IIT Madras had been running online BS programs in Data Science and Programming, Electronic Systems, and Aeronautics and Space Technology.
Gangapriya Chakraverti, India Site Head and Managing Director, Ford Motor Company, said whether at the bank, or a retail chain, or in a manufacturing plant, the most valued asset isn’t always capital or the people; it could be the data. “But any data in a vacuum is completely useless. It requires management, requires the ability to ask the right questions, ability to lead teams, and ability to take ethical and strategic decisions,” she observed. The programme, she said, was a business degree of and for the data age.

Rajiv C. Lochan, Managing Director and CEO, Sundaram Finance, said the program has been designed to contain audio, video, text, digital, and offline peer groups, collaboration, debate and discussion and, therefore, an opportunity for hindsight and reflection.
Giving details about the course, Prathap Haridoss, Dean, Academic Courses, IIT Madras, said, although mostly online, the BS has a hybrid mode with certain project submissions, lab activities, and all evaluations requiring in-person presence.

Graduates will receive a Master of Science degree from IIT Madras, carrying the same academic recognition as any other degree offered by the Institute.
The program is open to anyone who has completed Class 12 or an equivalent qualification, including certificate holders. There is no age limit or seat restrictions. Learners can pursue the program as a standalone degree, or alongside another academic program, or whilst being employed, says a release.
Candidates are admitted to the program either via an in-house qualifier or by being eligible to appear for JEE Advanced. The first batch of the new program will commence from June 2026. The last date for applying to the program is May 31, the release said.
The BS (Management and Data Science) follows a hybrid learning model with high academic norms.
Courses are delivered through recorded lectures by IIT Madras faculty, enabling students to study at their own pace, complemented by live interactive tutorial sessions, case discussions, and continuous academic support through online forums. Examinations will be conducted on Sundays, the release said.
This the fourth such BS program launched by IIT Madras following BS in Data Science and Applications; BS in Electronic Systems and BS Aeronautics & Space Tech.

“IIT is for all. Through such BS courses, we want to reach out to a large number of students of various ages,” V. Kamakoti, Director,IIT Madras, said at the launch. It is now a data driven world and everything is about analytics. “I urge students to learn topics like statistics to help them in data science and analytics. Through this new course, we want to prepare learners for leadership in a data-driven world,” he added.
