UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan on Monday concluded his three-hour visit to New Delhi during which he met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and sealed key agreements to enhance collaboration between Abu Dhabi and New Delhi.

Weighing in on the visit, Foreign Expert Wael Awwad said this was a very important visit in the times of unfavorable geopolitical shifts.

“UAE has great relations with India in terms of trade and partnership… This is very important in the times of adverse geopolitical shifts… There is also great bilateral trade between the two countries, which has completed a trade worth $100 billion, and they (UAE) also want to invest $75 billion. 43 lakh Indians reside in Dubai… India and the UAE are great economic and political partners,” he told ANI.

Economic Growth

During the visit, India and the UAE signed a Letter of Intent on investment collaboration between the Government of Gujarat and the UAE Ministry of Investment for the development of the Dholera Special Investment Region.

The envisioned partnership includes the creation of strategic infrastructure, such as an international airport, a greenfield port, a smart urban township, railway connectivity, energy infrastructure, and aviation training and aircraft maintenance facilities.

Both sides also agreed to work towards establishing a Strategic Defence Partnership Framework Agreement, aimed at expanding defence cooperation in areas including defence industrial collaboration, advanced technologies, training and education, special operations, cyber security, counter-terrorism and interoperability.
Additionally, India and the UAE agreed to double bilateral trade to over USD 200 billion by 2032, with a focus on linking MSMEs, promoting new markets and leveraging initiatives such as Bharat Mart, the Virtual Trade Corridor and Bharat-Africa Setu.

The two sides also agreed to promote bilateral civil nuclear cooperation, building on opportunities created by India’s SHANTI Act 2025. Cooperation will cover advanced nuclear technologies, including large reactors and Small Modular Reactors (SMRs), as well as nuclear safety, operations and maintenance.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday personally received UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan at the airport in New Delhi, a special gesture asserting the close ties between the two countries, as the visiting leader arrived for a short but high-level official visit.

The rapidly expanding India-UAE relationship received another upgrade Monday with the two countries signing a letter of intent for a strategic defense partnership as PM Narendra Modi hosted President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan for a visit that lasted a little over three hours but yielded several important outcomes and announcements.


These included four other agreements, including one for space collaboration, another for purchase of 0.5 million metric tonnes per annum of LNG by HPCL from ADNOC Gas over a period of 10 years and yet another letter of intention for development of the Dholera special investment region in Gujarat.


There were several other announcements, including a decision to double bilateral trade to $200 billion by 2032, establishment of a supercomputing cluster in India and development and deployment of large nuclear reactors and small modular reactors (SMRs) to boost civil nuclear collaboration.


Not for the first time, Modi received Al Nahyan at the airport in a special gesture that

At the invitation of the Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi, President of the United Arab Emirates, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, paid an official visit to India on 19 January 2026. This was the fifth visit of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to India in the last ten years and his third official visit to India as the President of the UAE.

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan reviewed the full scope of bilateral collaboration between the two countries. They agreed that the India-UAE Comprehensive Strategic Partnership has continued to strengthen over the past decade.

The two leaders welcomed the visits of the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, His Highness Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense of the UAE, His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, to India in the last two years, noting that these visits marked generational continuation of the bilateral relationship.

The two leaders endorsed the results of the 13th High-Level Task Force on Investments held in September 2025, and the 16th India-UAE Joint Commission Meeting and 5th Strategic Dialogue held in December 2025.
